Sommige platen klinken alsof ze gemaakt móésten worden. Zo ook deze soloplaat van Philip Kroonenberg. Op “Only Just Begun” combineert hij lieve liedjes over zijn kinderen met zwaarder werk, zoals het lied over de mondharmonicaspeler John Lagrand.

“Have you heard the news / it’s a sad day for looking back / Johnny boy’s changed his ways too late / and now he’s dead”.

Of over Herman Brood:

“So our hero jumped off the roof of the hotel / where he used to dwell and drink from the wishing well / So the ones who used to serve him every day / Now had to scrape his body from the parking place.”

Het solo-album “Only Just Begun” (Sweet Jelly Music) verscheen in 2006.
